The jacket is made of a high-performance, breathable stretch fabric that allows you to reach freely for cracks and work up a sweat without getting overly clammy, while offering a high level of waterproof, windproof protection. A DWR (durable water repellent) finish beads moisture into droplets that run off rather than penetrating the fabric, and if moisture does get through the surface fabric in a downpour, it is trapped by the hydrophillic membrane that spreads the moisture across the surface area of the jacket, and keeps it from getting through to your skin or clothing underneath. The rugged fabric is designed to withstand the rigors of harsh alpine environments, including rubbing against rock faces, so its valuable weatherproof protection isn't easily sacrificed when you need it most. Throw the jacket's hood over your helmet or head for extra warmth, and quickly cinch in the hood, hem and waist with one-hand pull cords for a stay-put, protective fit. Asymmetric cuffs with hook-and-loop closure straps and the drop-tail hem offer added coverage to keep cold air out. If the air temperature or your body temperature rise to uncomfortable levels, you can vent by opening up the two-way underarm zippers.
